Where God provides the increase

Showtime! June 25, 2008

This is what I have been up to for the last couple of months.

My oldest was in the Gone with the Breeze play and my youngest the Nifty 50’s.  My Mom came to visit for 3 weeks from Arkansas to see both girls and help hold me together through costume making and backstage helping.  Thanks Mom!! I just took her to the airport this morning and I’m going to miss her terribly.         My hubby was awesome and helped me tremendously by attending all the cast afterparties and buying tickets to all three shows(6 shows altogether).  He truly is Super Dad!!

Here is my oldest as Peggy Tempest the tempermental starlet.

These are the laywers singing give a lawyer a hug.  Peggy sues the company to get the lead role in Gone with the Breeze.  I barely recogonized my girl she was so funny.

Here is my youngest in the Nifty 50’s.

.   She was Muffin Mansfield, the pretty snob who told Gracie the big star Ziggy Springer would never come to their school Hippity Hop.

 Whoops she was wrong ;)

Okay I’ll stop.  They gave me 3 cds with pictures but I’ll spare you the rest.

They did such a good job and I am so proud of them.  Now I’m off to take a nap.

Jacon 2008 May 20, 2008

My husband took the girls to Jacon last weekend.  They wanted to dress up like their favorite characters.  The girls and I have been sewing for a week to make the costumes.  We used a pattern for the skirt and shirt but the girls made the pattern for the sailor collar and the cuffs.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE May 10, 2008

May is Stroke Awareness Month

RECOGNIZING A STROKE:

Remember the “3″ steps.

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

1.      S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

2.      T *Ask the person to TALK, to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE.
(Coherently) (i.e. . . It is sunny out today?

3.      R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.NOTE: Another ’sign’ of a stroke is this: Ask the person to ’stick’ out their tongue . if the tongue is ‘crooked’, if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.

If he or she has trouble with any one of these tasks, call 911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

I feel like everything around me is moving at breakneck speed and I am going 25 mph.

I don’ t have time to go back and revisit what happened yesterday because today is racing ahead of me and I can’t catch it.  I need to strenghten my resolve and just do what I need to do.  I’m so tired and when I’m tired I’m easily distracted.   I need to spend some time making some to do lists or something.  I have closed doors and opened new ones nothing is the same as it was last year.   I keep trying to cut things out so I won’t feel so frazzled but something else always pops up to take the place.  Mostly it’s the girls activities.  I don’t want to slow them down and I want to foster their interests but I am really exhausted.    Maybe I just need a nap ;)

145:14 The Lord helps the fallen
and lifts those bent beneath their loads.  NLT

Psalm 62:5-7

 5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;
       my hope comes from him.

 6 He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

 7 My salvation and my honor depend on God [a] ;
he is my mighty rock, my refuge.

My eyes are burning! April 16, 2008

I’ve been looking at curriculum for next year.  Trying to find out when the used book sales are going to be held and nail down a plan of attack.  This can always become a black hole for me.  I think I have spent the better part of the day doing this.

 Curriculum plans so far:

DD#2

Bob Jones Math 6 or Elements of Math I’m hoping to get to flip through these to really see what the difference is.

Sonlight English

History ___________________?

Science SOS or General Science ?

DD#2

Teaching Textbooks Algebra II

Apologia Marine Biology

Government/Economics either Abeka or Dual Enroll ??

English 4 Dual Enroll English 2

I need to get more info on the state graduation ceremonies and all that good stuff.

I did learn that if I buy new Apologia it’s cheaper at www.rocksolidinc.com than at www.christianbooks.com  but Rock Solid didn’t carry Teaching Textbooks so I will probably order that from  CBD.  Also I found a really neat resource from Dr. Wile at CBD an enhanced cd called Teaching High School at Home http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=236412&netp_id=447126&event=ESRCN&item_code=WW&view=details

Okay that’s it for me for today.  I’m off to rest my aching eyes.

This is the time of year you usually start thinking about the next year.   However I’m finding it hard to motivate myself to do this.

My oldest will probably dual enroll everything but Math and Government/Economics.  I need to find out about graduation with our state homeschool association.  Two years ago I sent a few emails but never got a reply.  I think they don’t deal with inquirers just paid graduators.  My friend’s daughter went through the program last year so I know they do answer people just maybe not people who aren’t graduating that year.    Right now I have to prepare this semesters transcripts in order for her to dual enroll Spanish II this summer.  Also we need to prepare for the SAT’s again as her evaluation method for the county.

My youngest I’m just thinking I’ll access after I get her tested as to what we should do next.  I’m trying to get her ready for testing in a few weeks and that is really all I’ve been focused on.  I’m a little nervous about it since it is her first testing.  I’m trying not to worry about the result and focus on the fact that she needs testing practice.  I think my oldest daughter benefited greatly by sitting  a test several times before having to take the all important SAT’s.   She is in two drama programs and that has been keeping me quite busy.  All I want to do is join her outside and do this.

Lately my girls have been getting a kick out of shaped sandwiches for lunch.  Here are some pb&j’s and turkey sandwiches shaped into a fish for a lunchtime tea.

I used a cookie cutter for the hearts.  There have been many requests for repeat performances.    I used the scraps from the heart sandwiches to make breadcrumbs.

My youngest has made lunch for me today.  Blackbean and corn burritos.  She is telling me it’s getting cold so I better go.

Have a great day.

Family Stuff March 19, 2008

My oldest daughter had 4 impacted wisdom teeth extracted under anesthesia yesterday.  Praise God she did not have and reaction and is recovering quite nicely right now.  She can’t have any solid foods and needs a lot of care but I am so grateful that she is not in extreme pain like we anticipated.  I attribute that to the prayers of grandparents and friends and God’s grace.  My hubby sprained his back last week so I have been helping to take care of him as well.  I am also trying to alter our diets to help with his metabolic disorder, all my kids allergies and general health concerns.  I have been reading the Maker’s Diet again and trying to make small changes one at a time.
Below is a smoothie I have been making for my daughter that is adapted from some of what I learned in the Maker’s Diet. (FYI -Peanut Butter is not in phase one of the Maker’s Diet  I’m still making baby steps)

Peanut Butter Smoothie
1 1/2 cup Organic Whole Milk Yogurt
1 tsp raw honey
2 tsp ground flaxseed
1 tsp ground raw sunflower seeds
1 banana
3/4 cup peanut butter
Blend until smooth
They loved in and my youngest even begged for seconds?  She is my sugar hound so that really surprised me.  I don’t really measure most of this I just eyeball but I put apx.measurements as a guide.  Also I used my coffee grinder to grind the flax-seed and sunflower seeds into powder.
Hope everyone has a blessed day.
